Pianist and composer Dave Brubeck’s ground-breaking 1959 album Time Out has stood the test of time. The first jazz album to sell more than a million copies and peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Pop chart, Time Out was noted for its exploration of time signatures, unusual for jazz at the time. The album’s single Take Five was the first jazz tune to sell a million copies and is considered by many to be the greatest jazz standard of all time. Drummer Dan Brubeck was featured on nearly a dozen albums with his father and toured widely with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, including many appearances with the world’s leading orchestras. An in-demand and stylistically versatile musician, Dan has also toured with The Band, Paul Desmond, Michael Franks, and Roy Buchanan. Dan’s quartet will feature some of Canada’s finest jazz musicians: Miles Black (piano), Regina-born Steve Kaldestad (sax), and Saskatoon-born Miles Hill (bass)
